This week I am bringing you not one but 2 unusual connectors for harsh environments. Sometimes you see the odd connector series given a make over and re-configured for multiple uses and in the following blog you get M12 Connectors from Binder and True Connectors from Neutrik!
Firstly Binder, well known for producing industrial circular connectors and cable assemblies, have introduced their HEC series of connectors designed specifically for outdoor use. This is good because now you have more choice.
The HEC Connectors are specifically designed for providing Power for outdoor use. According to Binder:
“Binder Series 696 HEC connectors are manufactured from a robust UL 94V-0 rated polyamide and feature a three-point bayonet locking system designed for quick and secure fastening. They are waterproof and dustproof to IP68/IP69k and can withstand the levels of harsh treatment found in applications like agriculture and construction where the use of high-pressure washing is commonplace”.
The product information goes on to say, “Other applications include traffic and signalling systems, process engineering plants, water purification facilities and recycling equipment. These HEC connectors feature a robust and safe coding mechanism to prevent incorrect orientation and, according to binder, they are suitable for over 1000 mating cycles. The use of a variety of crimp contacts ensures a secure, vibration-proof termination”
This is all good news for people looking for a plastic alternative to clunky metal circular connectors that are easy to assemble, I can easily see these connectors taking off very well.
Second in today’s offering is the Neutrik The True Outdoor Protection (TOP) Connectors line includes the EtherCON and PowerCON TRUE1 ranges, giving you IP protection and also UL50E – rated UV resistance as well. Designed to handle being connected or disconnected under load or live, each connector also has breaking capacity (CBC).
