A Review of interconnection in 2013

The past 12 months have proven to be exciting, demanding, innovative and unpredictable – but that is manufacturing for you!

As this is my last Blog of the year I, I thought I should see 2013 out with a review of the year’s outstanding moments. 2013

The year started with the continued use of CCA Cables in cheap, Far-East imports and, with innovation being the main theme this year, we end off with mostly positive industry news, including that regarding more and more cables coming back to the UK for manufacture.

Some of the stand out innovations are the HUBER+SUHNER  RADOX® anti-capillary cable, TE Connectivity launching their revolutionary Cloudsplitter connector system , and Alpha Wire expanding their EcoWire range of cables.

Samtec proved to be the kings of customer service while Harwin invested heavily in their UK factory.  As you can imagine, TE won a bucketful of awards for their innovations while Molex and JST continue to expand their already heaving ranges.

We are very positive about the future of Cable Assembly in the UK, especially as we are seeing so much work returning from the low-cost offshore plants. This is simply because customers are letting go of the ‘cheapest price wins’ mentality,  and realising that a ‘value + quality + service’ equation always sees the UK well-placed to take good care of our own customers.

My hopes and ambitions for 2014 are that we continue to develop and innovate, whilst always reminding the world that the ‘Made in the UK’ IS a moniker synonymous with world class!  As the underdog to the manufacturing powerhouse that is Germany, we can believe in our ability to use their model of supplying the world with well-engineered and excellently manufactured products that include cable assemblies.

Thank you for following us and reading this Blog; we look forward to bringing you all the latest news and innovations in 2014!
