IPC/WHMA-A-620 – Revision B has been released!

Being up-to-date in your profession is simply about being the best you can be at your job.   In our profession we need to believe training isn’t too expensive and investment is a good thing.

I love the analogy of the man who goes to see his doctor and asks about a problem, and the doctor says: ‘I can’t remember too much about that, it’s been 15 years since I left university!’  That would simply be unacceptable.

In our line of work, IPC regulates most of what we do outside of health and safety and legal requirements.  In this blog I want to discuss IPC/WHMA-A-620 and the revision B status.  The revision includes greatly-expanded criteria for moulding, potting, splicing, crimp contacts without insulation support, inline insulation displacement connectors, connectorization, rigid and conformable cable, flexible sleeving, broomstitching, testing, and more!

Revision B remains the only industry-consensus standard for Requirements and Acceptance of Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies. IPC and the Wire Harness Manufacturers Association (WHMA) continue to work together to develop this significant update.

You can get the latest standards directly from the IPC website at :

https://portal.ipc.org/Purchase/ProductDetail.aspx?Product_code=a959eab9-de22-e211-94c2-00155d052876

or from your local IPC training organisation.

I sincerely believe we all have to be sure that what we are doing is right, and that the electronics we manufacture are the best they can be. We will only achieve this through education and commitment to being the best we can possibly be.
